Mechanical Engineer Design R&D   ATAS- 771 The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) in Atlanta, GA is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer who can think outside of the box and doesn’t want to do the same old thing every day. This opportunity is within the Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems Lab (ATAS). ATAS conducts research and development for government and industry customers in aerodynamics, radar and weapons systems, food processing technology, unmanned systems and modeling of social systems.

INTERNAL TITLE: Research Engineer I or II, Sr. Research Engineer

Position Summary
Mechanical Engineer Design, Analysis, Fabricate, Test, Report activities
In this role you will work on a variety of different projects based on work for the ATAS lab as well possibly other labs in GTRI. Some of your work will be to:  generate design concepts and preliminary designs, cost estimates, 3D CAD models, structural and thermal analysis, specifications, final detailed designs, and fabrication drawings;  Purchase materials and components;  Coordinate fabrication, assembly, installation, and integration;  Set up and conduct experiments;  Prepare progress reports, O&M manuals, and design review presentations;  Develop white papers and project proposals.

Requirements
REQUIREMENTS THAT MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
  • US Citizenship AND the ability to get a security clearance
  • BSME required; MSME preferred
  • 2 to 10 years broad-based mechanical engineering design and analysis experience across several disciplines:  machine design, structures, kinematics, vibration, thermal design and analysis, fluid flow, hydraulics, pneumatics, electronic packaging, servo controls.  Knowledge of material properties and machine shop fabrication processes.
  • Must be proficient with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).  FEA experience preferred.
